$108.00 Individual workshop in the Going Deeper Series
6 Yoga Alliance CEUs available
While some of today’s yoga practitioners have read the Hatha Yoga
Pradipika, not many even know about the Shiva Samhita or the Gherand
Samhita. It might be surprising to hear that these writings are the only
three surviving texts of Hatha Yoga. Considered the most detailed
original descriptions of asana (postures), pranayama (breath practices),
mudras and bandhas (symbolic hand gestures and energy locks), these
writings are also full of contradictions and seemingly bizarre
instructions. However, they give us important insights into the
traditional practices and purposes of Hatha Yoga.
We’ll spend our time
in this workshop mining the details of these to-do manuals for the gems
that can advance our practice. Along the way, we will develop both an
intellectual and experiential understanding of the evolution of Hatha
Yoga into modern day yoga classes. You can expect lecture, all-levels
welcome physical practice, pranayama, meditation, journaling and group
discussion.
Recommended but not required are the following books:
The Hatha Yoga Pradipika by Svatmarama, translated by Brian Dana Akers
The Shiva Samhita: A Critical Edition and English Translation by James Mallinson
The Gheranda Samhita: The Original Sanskrit and English Translation by James Mallinson

makes the wisdom of yoga feel relevant and relatable.
Tara’s classes
include action-based instructions in asana that are a result of study of

plenty of opportunities for stillness and contemplation in her classes,
which are deeply influenced by her study and practice of Restorative
Yoga.
