iRest® Yoga Nidra meditation is a modern-day secular, western adaptation of the ancient meditative practice of Yoga Nidra. It is a gentle form of self-inquiry, which has been shown to effectively reduce anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, chemical dependency, and PTSD. It also has the ability to increase our health, resilience, and well-being. In fact – experiencing this practice can feel like 2-3 hours of deep rest or sleep. For some, it is a total re-set!

Online

Pricing: $36 non-members/$32 members

1-3pm, Online

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, have arguably and somewhat inexplicably become the most influential text to modern yoga. This workshop will explore how and why this has happened, the valuable insights The Yoga Sutras can offer us, and where The Yoga Sutras divert from some of the foundational philosophies of yoga outlined in the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. Part history lesson, part philosophical inquiry, this is both introduction to the Yoga Sutras and in-depth consideration of a few of the most oft-quoted verses and concepts. The ethical guidelines of yoga, the end goal of yoga practice, distractions and the obstacles, and what we can expect when we attain enlightenment… it’s all here and we’ll spend time discovering and unpacking all of it. 12 Hour Foundations of Yin Yoga: Theory and Science of Joint and Fascia Tending

Dates: Saturday, February 25, 2023 - Sunday, February 26, 2023
Location: Lighthouse Yoga Center
In-Person

$280 general/$250 members

1-7pm each day, In-person

Yin Yoga utilizes muscularly relaxed poses, practiced on the floor, that are held for 3-5 minutes in order to safely and systematically stimulate chemical regenerative responses in tissues, particularly of fascia, ligaments, and within joint capsules. Through modest traction and compression, one trains the structural tissues to reduce the process of contracture that shortens tissues and can cause degeneration, adhesions, pain, and decreased range of motion. Yin Yoga's methodical and subtle approach provides lubrication, mobility, and a sense of lightness to the body's structure, energetics, and thus to the nervous system, the mind and emotions.

This 12 hour training/personal enrichment program is a valuable introductory exploration for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the Yin Yoga practice for their own self-care, for teachers wanting to incorporate the basics of Yin Yoga wisely and safely into their class offerings, and for wellness practitioners looking to integrate Yin Yoga practices into their sessions.

Location: Lighthouse Yoga Center

$72 general/$65 members

Thursdays, 6:30-7:45pm, online and in-person

Anger is often viewed as undesirable, something that needs to be stifled or ignored. Depending on our intersection of identities, our anger can be perceived as unattractive, threatening and dangerous. Very rarely are we taught or encouraged to look deeply at our anger, to hold it and understand it, to be in relationship with it. During this series, we will do just that, connect with the energy of our anger (fire) to explore what’s underneath, how it impacts us and how we can take care of it. This series is not about overcoming but rather understanding and befriending our anger. Practices will include: Journaling, meditation, gentle movement, readings and breathwork.

Your Body in Yoga: A Functional Anatomy Immersion Workshop

Location: Lighthouse Yoga Center

EARLY BIRD PRICING!  $260 for all - ends February 10th!

$280 general/$260 members  In-Person, 1-7:30pm each day

With Machelle Lee, MA, E-RYT 500, CMT, YACEP

Harshly judging one's range of motion is one of the greatest sources of unnecessary suffering in many people’s yoga practice. The asanas (poses) were designed to move the regenerative and healing life force. To do that effectively in yoga, we must understand our own (or our students') unique structures and explore when we can safely move deeply into a posture or when to acknowledge limitations with respect.

This functional anatomy workshop explores the 10 muscle groups and the 14 major joint segments of the body that account for most of our yoga postures. For each joint intersection, we will perform analysis and range of motion tests on ourselves, ask specific questions about the key sensations, compare with each other, and demonstrate how each person will express particular poses based on their unique anatomic make up.

Doodle and Dhyana (focus): Using Yantra to Meditate

Dates: Saturday, April 01, 2023
Location: Lighthouse Yoga Center
In-Person

$48 general/$39 members

2:00 to 4:30 pm, in-person

Ever find yourself doodling in a meeting, or drawing to focus the mind? Then this workshop is for you!  Along with asana, mantra, and mudra, yantras (symbolic geometric drawings) have long been used in yogic traditions as a tool to meditate. Traditional yantras are symmetrical geometrical representations. In this workshop, participants will choose a symbol that resonates with them and practice drawing it as a meditative practice. Each participant will have the opportunity to choose from a library of yogic symbols, or symbols of their choosing. Once we create a yantra drawing, we will use the symbol to focus the mind and meditate. This introduction to a yantra practice is a wonderful way to cultivate dhyana (focus) and dharana (flow) in our meditations. Ideal for those of us who are fidgety and need to occupy the hands to focus the mind, visual learners, or just the curious. Students are invited to bring their favorite art supplies, pencil and paper to the workshop.

Location: Lighthouse Yoga Center

$108 general/ $96 members

6:30-7:45pm, online and in-person

With Megan Davis

Back pain is one of the most common injuries/complaints. Much of our pain comes from misuse and overuse of particular muscles and poor posture. Yoga provides an opportunity to work the body differently and recreate patterns that support healthy posture and alignment.

In each class of this series, we will work on different strategies to stretch and gently strengthen the muscles of the back and improve our core stability postural habits to support good sitting and standing alignment. This means we’ll be working on foot and knee alignment, hip stability, and shoulder and head position. We will be doing some traditional asana plus exercises and sequences from other movement traditions.
