$60.00 Take Ownership of Your Practice - Oct 22
$108.00 Take Ownership of Your Practice - both days

This two-part workshop is for any yoga practitioner with any level of experience who is interested in empowering their individual practice. Both workshops will begin with a discussion on our two basic principles (Intra-Abdominal Pressure and Ground Force Reaction) that can be directly applied towards your individual practice and body patterns. Abby will weave together knowledge from over a decade of working with bodies as a massage therapist and yoga teacher to offer information that's practical, accessible, and applicable. Then, we'll move through a yoga practice where we'll put skill into action, apply that new knowledge as a diagnostic tool, and gain a direct experience of our unique bodies.

These practices will open the gate to our true yoga practice - the ability to be humble and open minded. Both of these workshops will challenge your ego, show you the truth of your body, and give you the sweet opportunity to practice acceptance, humility, and kindness. Abby will guide students to work with inquiry and playfulness, so that each person makes aligned, mindful choices using the information received from these practices in a non-judgmental way. Each person will leave the workshop having learned easy-to-understand functional anatomy, with the tools and skillfulness to tailor your practice to your individual needs in the future. Expect to leave both workshops with a new knowledge of your unique and habitual body patterns, with tools that can be directly applied towards your individual movement practices, and feeling deeply relaxed and grounded.

Part 1: Intra-Abdominal Pressure
Saturday October 15, 1-4pm

Intra-Abdominal Pressure, or IAP, is our ability to use yogic diaphragmatic breathing to access a well of deep strength and stability through the core. Using IAP, we'll engage the Intrinsic Core (the deep core muscles that structurally support the spine) to feel subtle and fascinating layers of fascia, muscle, and bone. The breath access we gain using IAP gives us a direct experience of what is free, what is stuck, and how we can use breath to immediately create change in our body. We'll use IAP as a diagnostic tool to discern unique and habitual patterns of tightness, injury, and/or dysfunction. Not only will you walk out having strengthened your deep core, but feeling deeply relaxed from having upregulated your Parasympathetic Nervous System - the rest and digest response.

Part 2: Ground Force Reaction
Saturday October 22, 1-4pm

Ground Force Reaction is our ability to press into the earth, and it shows us our patterns of tension, strength, and dysfunction in our muscles and fascia. Through GFR, we get a direct experience of where our individual compensatory patterns are, and how we can engage, educate, and strengthen the muscles that are sleepy or dysfunctional. We can also experience where we are strong, what muscles are working well, and what muscles are overcompensating. This workshop will challenge you to use your muscles in a new and more subtle way, and you'll walk out with a powerful new tool that you can apply to any yoga or movement practice.
