5 weeks to read and discuss this classic work on Hatha Yoga
Live-streaming Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 pm, September 23 to October 21, 2026
The
Hatha Yoga Pradipika, also known as Light on Hatha Yoga, is widely
agreed to be the most influential surviving text about yoga. Written as a
technical manual, it includes detailed descriptions of asana,
pranayama, mudras and bandhas, as well as the states of consciousness.
This medieval Indian text is full of fascinating metaphors, esoteric
ideas, and a whole lot of entertaining hyperbole. Join us for this fun
and nerdy book club to uncover how the original intentions and
techniques of hatha yoga relate to your yoga practice today.
We will be reading Brian Dana Akers translation, available for purchase directly from the publisher here <
https://www.yogavidya.com/hatha-yoga-pradipika.html> or wherever you purchase books.
Tara Lemerise
Tara Lemerise teaches the time-honored philosophy and practice of yoga
in an accessible and joyful way. Registered with Yoga Alliance at
E-RYT-200/E-RYT-500, Tara has been teaching yoga philosophy, movement,
and meditation since 2005. She has over 9,000 hours of teaching
experience.
According to Tara, there is nothing to “fix” with yoga.
Instead, there are only more opportunities to understand and be more
fully present to our separate and together experiences. She is known for
offering clear and helpful instruction to students at all levels and
makes the wisdom of yoga feel relevant and relatable.
Tara’s classes
include action-based instructions in asana that are a result of study of
anatomy, kinesiology and creative movement. In addition, Tara provides
plenty of opportunities for stillness and contemplation in her classes,
which are deeply influenced by her study and practice of Restorative
Yoga.
