Join us in our hosting of the Middle Way Tea Experience - an introduction to Mindfulness, in conjunction with Crossroads Teahouse on their Washington, DC Tour. The Middle Way Tea Experience begins with a 31-minute Meditation followed by a Curated Tea, Herbal, and Food Tasting Menu. Think afternoon tea mixed in with a tea ceremony and steeped in an American melting pot with different herbs and spices worldwide.

Part I - Meditation The mindfulness starts but doesn't end with the meditation portion! Beginning with a kundalini meditation allows each person to start to center and ground themselves back to their breath. As we do this, we give attention to ourselves and what our body, mind, and spirit tell us. Here, we allow ourselves to stay still and take up space in this bustling, complex, and often constantly moving city and world we live in. Towards the end, we continue to be present and transition to the second part of the experience; the tea and food. However, we purposely remain in a mindful state while we smell, sip, and drink the tea and intentionally consume the food!

Part II - Tea, Herbal, and Food Tasting Menu The second part can be ventured alone or with the group. Although light banter is allowed, we suggest any communication between participants pertains to the meditation, tea/herbs, or the food focused on what is happening here now. We sample 3 teas with our tasting menu. First, we enjoy a cup of chamomile, lemon grass, and ginger tea blend. Then, we receive our second blend, a rooibos tea blend, along with our food items. We indulge one bit at a time, capturing each smell and allowing each taste bud to be encountered. Finally, we come to our last cup of tea, a blend of spearmint and peppermint. To conclude, we notice how we feel and the journey we just went on. We acknowledge ourselves and take a mental note of this space and that these feelings are always accessible when needed. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions; we will make menu adjustments for you. Also, please, let us know if you have any allergies to the types of teas/herbs; we will be using chamomile, lemongrass, ginger, rooibos, spearmint, and peppermint - we will replace a blend for you.

Nandi Gabremedhin - Kundalini Yoga Instructor at Lighthouse Yoga Center, will host the meditation to render a calm, intuitive, self-blessing to prepare us for the tea and food tasting experience. Before we begin our meditation, we will tune in, in the kundalini tradition, with the Adi Mantra Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo three times in a monotone. Then we will begin with the beautiful Kirtan Kriya meditation to honor the spring season's rebirth and the newness within us all. See meditation here:
